The Ego in the vision of Diamond Logos Teachings

In the exploration of Essence and the psychology of the ego according to Diamond Logos Teachings, profound insights emerge about what we commonly call “I” – or Ego. Far from being merely an obstacle to overcome or an illusion to dissolve, the ego has a specific function in our inner journey. Faisal Muqaddam, the founder of DLT, offers us a unique perspective that goes beyond the dichotomy between ego and spiritual realization, recognizing the ego as a memory of Essence and a key to its recovery.

The Ego and the Essential Self

For Faisal, the ego contains the essential self. Every time we speak and refer to ourselves as “I,” we are tapping into this part of us. But where does this sense of identity come from?

If we imagine our deepest nature as an ocean, we notice that the ocean itself has no individual identity: it simply is. Similarly, the Absolute has no sense of “I.” However, there exists an individual being, a unique quality that distinguishes us: our soul.

When a child is born, they are pure essence, yet they already possess uniqueness. Every newborn has a particular vibration, a presence that makes them different from others. This individuality develops over time, but the process of growing up often involves a separation from Essence. Due to upbringing, social influences, and life experiences, the child is gradually distanced from their authentic self, losing contact with innate qualities such as love, clarity, and joy. This disconnection generates a sense of loss and an incessant search for identity.

When this separation occurs, the child’s consciousness tries to remember the self and the sense of identity. In the absence of a true identity, they cling to a feeling of what this identity might be or to an image of it. Thus, the ego is a memory, like an image of essence.

Therefore, the ego is a very precise part of the psyche; it is that part of our soul that tries to preserve the image of the higher self and seeks the way back to it. It is completely engaged in this search for the higher self. It does not concern itself with the Absolute. The Absolute does not respond to the search because it is not the Absolute that the ego seeks.” – Faisal Muqaddam

The Ego as a Bridge to the Higher Self

In this vision, the ego is not an enemy to be destroyed but rather a fragment of the psyche that holds the memory of the higher self. It is the consciousness’s attempt to reconstruct an identity based on what has been forgotten. Thus, instead of trying to eliminate the ego, we can understand and work with it to rediscover our true nature.

Spiritual traditions often teach that the ego must be transcended to reach enlightenment, but in the Diamond Logos approach, this view risks overlooking the essential function of the ego in the search for oneself. All human beings seek their authentic self, even when they are searching for God or a higher meaning. The ego is the instrument through which this search takes place, and recognizing its role allows us to transform it into an ally rather than an obstacle.

The Ego as a Tool for Integration and Growth

Understanding the ego in the context of Diamond Logos Teachings offers us a more inclusive approach to inner growth. Instead of seeing it as a limitation to overcome, we can embrace it as a bridge that guides us toward our essential self. The search for Essence is not a rejection of the ego but a process of integration and reconnection with what we have always been. In this journey, our task is not to annihilate the ego but to use it as a tool to find our way back to our deepest authenticity.
